The Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo in Thailand forced a chimpanzee to wear surgical mask, peddle a child’s bike and and spray coronavirus sanitizer around the zoo on April 11, notes the Mirror Online.
The monkey wore denim shorts and an orange Hawaiian shirt with a sanitizer tank strapped to its back.
The zoo said it wanted to show how they are keeping the zoo clean, but the animal rights group PETA called a video of the chimp “heartbreaking.”
There have also been claims that the zoo has abused elephants, failed to feed crocodiles and has kept bears in filthy pools.
PETA spokesman Nirali Shah slammed the zoo:
Places like Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo are hellholes where animals like this chimpanzee endure miserable lives in captivity every single day. They’re routinely mistreated, and know little more than chains.
When they’re not used for human “entertainment,” they’re held in cramped cages… PETA submitted the investigative findings to the Thai police and lodged an official complaint with authorities, urging them to inspect the zoo.
