Youth Facility Staff Pile on Black Teen Cornelius Fredericks Before His Death, Students Say He Cried Out ‘I Can’t Breathe’

Newly-released surveillance video shows several male staffers piling on top of 16-year-old Cornelius Fredericks for eight minutes on April 29 inside the Lakeside Academy for Children and Sequel Youth Services in Kalamazoo, Michigan, reports CBS News (MORE VIDEO BELOW).

The black teen was kept on life-support, and died on April 30.

Cornelius was sitting at a lunchroom table when he tossed his sandwich to another table. A staff member pushed Cornelius to the floor while more staff members piled on, notes WKZO.

The attorney for the Fredericks family, Geoffrey Fiege, held a press conference where he revealed the surveillance video of the incident:

Cornelius urinated on himself during the time in which they were killing him…He’s not fighting at all because you’ll see his shoes and his feet are just lying there...

One of the children was at the next table and has repeatedly advised us that Cornelius said “I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe.”
