Police chased and shot a black man, identified as Jacob Blake, in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
At least a half dozen witnesses say that Blake was unarmed and trying to break up a verbal fight between two women outside a house shortly after 5 p.m., notes the Kenosha News.
A police department press release said the cops arrived at the scene at 5:11 p.m.
A video of the incident shows Blake walking away from officers and around a car to get inside. While Blake entered the car, police opened fire on him multiple times.
Blake was airlifted to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, and is listed in serious condition.
Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said Blake was shot in the back, reports WDJT:
Tonight, Jacob Blake was shot in the back multiple times, in broad daylight, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Kathy and I join his family, friends, and neighbors in hoping earnestly that he will not succumb to his injuries. While we do not have all of the details yet, what we know for certain is that he is not the first Black man or person to have been shot or injured or mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law enforcement in our state or our country.
