White tourists complained that their trip was “ruined” because a woman, Therese Patricia Okoumou, climbed the Statue of Liberty on the Fourth of July to protest the imprisonment of child and baby immigrants by the Trump administration.
Okoumou was part of the pro-immigrant group Rise and Resist, and said she wouldn’t come down until “all the children are released,” a New York Police Department source told CNN.
One female tourist told WNBC how upset she was that the police closed down the Statue of Liberty because of the protest:
We didn’t even spend more than 10 minutes there. It was just nothing.
A male tourist also whined about Okoumou of ruining his vacation.
I think there’s a right way of protesting, a legal way of protesting. And she just ruined our whole trip.
