White House trade adviser Peter Navarro predictably claimed on CNN that President Donald Trump’s statement about intentionally slowing testing for COVID-19 on June 20 was simply “tongue-in-cheek.”
Navarro previously lied for Trump on “60 Minutes” and made the absurd claim on CNN that he was qualified to speak on medical treatment for the coronavirus because of his background in social science. Navarro also tried to smear Dr. Rick Bright, a highly-respected immunologist, on behalf of Trump.
As usual, Navarro failed to present any evidence for his laughable defense of the president:
It was a light moment. We’re 60 seconds into a tongue-and-cheek thing. Asked and answered.
CNN host Jake Tapper interjected: “I’m not sure 100,000 [dead] Americans is the subject for a light moment.”
Navarro went on to make the absurd claim that China somehow created COVID-19 (which has killed the Chinese people):
China created this pandemic. They hid the virus, they created that virus and they sent over hundreds of thousands of Chinese citizens here to spread that around and around the world.
Whether they did that on purpose, that’s an open question. But that’s a fact. The Chinese Communist Party did tremendous damage to this society and this economy...
You did not hear me wrong. That virus was a product of the Chinese Communist Party. And until we get some information about what happened in those labs, what happened in that wet market, we know that that virus was spawned in China, that is what I mean. Spawned in China.
