A white hotel employee called the police on a black woman because she and her kids — paid guests — were using the hotel pool at a Hampton Inn in Williamston, North Carolina on July 27.
The black guest, Anita Williams-Wright, filmed (and later posted on Instagram) video of the hotel employee and two police officers who asked her to prove that she was a guest at the hotel.
Shruti Gandhi Buckley, the Global Head of Hampton by Hilton, told USA TODAY that the employee has been fired:
Hampton by Hilton has zero tolerance for racism or discrimination of any kind. On Saturday, we were alerted to an online video of a guest incident at one of our franchise properties. The team member is no longer employed at the hotel.
