A white hotel clerk at a Country Inns and Suites hotel in Newport News, Virginia, was filmed on May 4 calling a black customer a “f*cking money” because the customer complained about getting a smoking room instead of the non-smoking room he had reserved for his mother.
Dee Fogleman posted the video on Facebook with a description:
I don’t post a lot, but my mom came down for my son’s birthday and was placed in a non smoking room that was obviously smoked in.
The guy obviously had a problem with us, listen when he turns to go back in his office…….and believe me, I handled my self better than I ever thought I would.
Fogleman’s wife, Kelsey Cunningham told WVEC that she was “surprised that it would happen in her hometown.”
Cunningham posted a complaint on the hotel’s Facebook page, but never received a response.
Vice President for Corporate Communications & PR of Radisson Hotels, the corporate parent of Country Inns and Suites, released a statement to WVEC:
The behavior and comments by this particular employee at this hotel are unacceptable and do not reflect our service expectations for the Country Inn & Suites by Radisson brand.
We apologize and again will be immediately conducting an investigation into this incident…
The employee in the video has been suspended from the Country Inn & Suites by Radisson Newport News, Va. while further investigation into this incident takes place.
