White Georgia Cop Fired After Hitting Black Suspect With Car

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department in Georgia fired Officer Taylor Saulters on June 2 after he hit a black suspect, Timmy Shaymar Patmon, with his police car on June 1.

Video from Saulters’ body cam shows him chasing Patmon, who reportedly had an active felony probation violation warrant.

Saulters and another officer recognized Patmon and gave chase, notes the Athens Banner-Herald.

Patmon was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for scrapes and cruises. Patmon was then transported to the Clarke County Jail, and charged for probation violation and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

Police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez said Saulters was fired for violating policies and procedure:

This was not the kind of conduct we would expect from an Athens-Clarke County police officer.

Rodriguez said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation would conduct an independent investigation.
