White Christian ‘Pro-Life’ Activist: Pro-Lifers Can’t Respond to Police Killing George Floyd, Because It Would Take Focus Away From Abortion
Kristan Hawkins — a white Christian woman who heads the anti-abortion group Students for Life of America (VIDEO BELOW) — wrote an op-ed in The Christian Post in which she used a zero sum argument to claim pro-life activists cannot “respond” to “other issues” such as the police killing of George Floyd because they have to be focused on abortion and “defending mothers”:
Pro-life organizations, sometimes, are uniquely placed to respond to other human rights injustices. But if all we do is respond to other issues, we’re no longer focused on defending mothers and their children, born and preborn whatever their color or race, and we would be buying into the false argument that the “pro-life issue“ isn’t important enough to be considered on its own… for pro-life groups, there is this expectation, often expressed angrily and on social media, that every life lost requires our immediate action.
Hawkins went on to say that she fights an unidentified “injustice” every day, but still cares “about all of the other issues and injustices,” which she did not name:
I fight injustice every day. While there is not enough time in the day and funds in the bank account to fight every injustice every day, that doesn’t mean I and the organization I lead doesn’t care about all of the other issues and injustices that affect Americans, at all stages of life.
Hawkins told MSNBC in 2017 that she wanted to ban birth control pills and IUDs.
