Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Carl Bernstein, who exposed former President Richard Nixon during the Watergate scandal, told CNN that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report is different compared to how Attorney General Bill Barr tried to portray it:
I think what is so significant is how different Mueller’s report is from how it was characterized, in a rather astonishing press conference, by the attorney general. This is a vast narrative of a presidential cover-up.
Bernstein noted the report showed that Trump repeatedly ordered officials to lie to protect him and obstruct the investigation.
Bernstein added that the report showed showed the Trump campaign had numerous contacts with Russian agents during the 2016 election (which Trump often denied):
It is not pretty. It is an ugly, damning piece of business.
