Unreleased White House Report Shows Coronavirus Spiking, Contradicts Trump’s Claim ‘Numbers Are Coming Down Rapidly’
NBC News has obtained an unreleased May 7 White House coronavirus task force report, which says coronavirus infection rates are spiking in several metropolitan areas and smaller communities across the country.
The task force data (headed by Vice President Mike Pence) contradicts President Donald Trump’s claim on May 11 that “all throughout the country, the numbers are coming down rapidly.”
The 10 top areas with COVID-19 surges of 72.4 percent or greater over a seven-day period (compared to the previous week) included: Nashville, Tennessee; Des Moines, Iowa; Amarillo, Texas.
Central City, Kentucky has seen a staggering 650 percent increase, while Charlotte and Kansas City saw increases of more than 200 percent.
“Locations to watch” included: Charlotte, North Carolina; Kansas City, Missouri; Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska; Minneapolis; Montgomery, Alabama; Columbus, Ohio; and Phoenix.
