President Donald Trump tried and failed to mock socialism during his first speech to the General Assembly at the United Nations.
Trump, whose own press secretary called for firing an ESPN host based on the host’s comments about Trump, called for political freedom in Venezuela, which received some applause:
I ask every country represented here today to be prepared to do more to address this very real crisis. We call for the full restoration of democracy and political freedoms in Venezuela.
Trump then launched his joke about socialism, which failed due to the fact that Venezuela is under a dictatorship, not socialism:
The problem in Venezuela is not that socialism has been poorly implemented, but that socialism has been faithfully implemented.
Trump paused and waited for an occasional clap and much grumbling.
Trump also threatened North Korea with total destruction, and referred to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as “Rocket Man.”
“Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his own nation,” Trump stated.
