White House trade adviser Peter Navarro, who has no medical background, claimed that he’s qualified to speak on medical treatment for the coronavirus because of his background in social science.
CNN anchor John Berman asked Navarro about his argument with National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr. Anthony Fauci during a Situation Room meeting on April 4 in which Navarro pushed hard for an unreliable study on hydroxychloroquine:
What are your qualifications to weigh in on medicine more than Dr. Anthony Fauci? Why should we listen to you and not Dr. Fauci?
Navarro offered his ludicrous claim without flinching:
My qualifications in terms of looking at the science is that I’m a social scientist. I have a Ph.D., and I understand how to read statistical studies, whether it’s in medicine, the law, economics, or whatever.
