Conservatives and Trump supporters are attacking a nurse who told CBS News that she had to quit her job at at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois, because she was not allowed to wear her N95 masks in the hospital “hallways.“
The nurse said she was assigned to an ICU unit that was converted into a COVID unit. She also said that none of the nurses were wearing masks in the “hallways” when they gave reports to each other.
She correctly stated that America and its nurses are not prepared for the coronavirus.
Northwestern Medicine refused to comment.
CBS News added a tweet clarifying that she was referring to the “halls.”
Imaris Vera, the nurse in this video, clarified her experience on Monday in a tweet: “We were each assigned 1 N95 per 1 covid patient’s room but was not allowed to wear it outside of the room, wear our own N95 mask around the Nurses station or Halls, which I came prepared with.”— CBS News (@CBSNews) April 6, 2020
The hospital, Northwestern Medicine, acknowledged that Imaris Vera had quit her job, but referred CBS News to Vera as to the details of why.— CBS News (@CBSNews) April 6, 2020
Right wingers claimed the nurse was lying in her video, but provided no evidence to back up their claims. Instead they posted a screenshot of the nurse talking about her anxiety and bi-polar depression..
So it turns out this video is entirely fraudulent. https://t.co/2axIrXK4LA— Jordan Schachtel (@JordanSchachtel) April 6, 2020
Hi @BernieSanders your girl wrote days before her histrionic video that she had anxiety and bi-polar depression, hadn’t been working in the hospital for over a year and didn’t know if she was ready to return. Maybe vet these people? Just a thought. https://t.co/0et5Y1d0ai pic.twitter.com/Z0gIu3Kbn4— Rosie memos (@almostjingo) April 6, 2020
Chrissy Clark at The Federalist also piled on with deceptive claims about the nurse’s video: “CBS News Posts Fraudulent Video Of ICU Nurse Crying Over Poor Working Conditions” and “CBS News posted a video of a nurse who claimed she quit her job after being asked to work in a coronavirus ICU without a face mask.”
Once again, the nurse said she was not allowed to wear her mask in the “hallways” when speaking to other nurses.
