President Donald Trump said that he is “very sad” about his former campaign manager Paul Manafort being found guilty on eight criminal charges.
Manafort was found guilty on eight of 18 counts including: five counts of tax fraud, two counts of bank fraud, and one charge of hiding foreign bank accounts.
Trump praised the convicted felon after his plan landed in Charleston, West Virginia, notes CNN:
Paul Manafort’s a good man. He was with Ronald Reagan. He was with a lot of very different people over the years. I feel very sad about that. I still feel, you know, it is a very sad thing that happened…
This has nothing to do with Russia and collusion. This started as Russian collusion. This has absolutely nothing to do. This is a witch hunt and a disgrace. This has nothing to do what they started locking out looking for Russians involved in our campaign. There were nothing.
Trump insisted this sixth conviction by Special Counsel Robert Mueller was a “witch hunt.”
Democratic Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia warned Trump not to pardon Manafort, who has a second federal trial waiting, notes Reuters:
U.S. Senator Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, warned President Donald Trump on Tuesday over a possible pardon for his former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort.
