Trump Repeats Debunked Lie That DNC Removed ‘God’ From Pledge of Allegiance, Trump Tries to Stir Up White Evangelical Christians

President Donald Trump falsely claimed that the Democratic National Convention removed the word “God” from the Pledge of Allegiance.

Trump repeated the debunked claim on Twitter in order to appeal to white evangelical Christians who often believe his ridiculous lies.

The fact-checking website Politifact debunked this bogus claim spread on Facebook by losing U.S. senatorial candidate Peggy Hubbard on Aug. 20:

Hubbard’s post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook.) It’s similar to other claims we’ve seen on Facebook, so we wanted to check it out.

Some Democratic caucus members omitted “one nation under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance during DNC meetings. But the line was not excluded from any of the convention’s primetime televised spots…

We reached out to Hubbard for a comment, but we haven’t heard back. Her Facebook post contains an element of truth but ignores critical facts that would give a different impression. We rate it Mostly False.
