White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters that “science should not stand in the way” of reopening schools during the COVID-19 pandemic surge.
McEnany defended President Donald Trump‘s non-science approach by stating “and when he says ‘open’ he means open in full, kids being able to attend each and every day at their school.”
McEnany failed to note that Trump does not have the power to open all schools or force children into schools during a deadly pandemic.
Looking at her prepared notebook of statements, McEnany quoted Fox News contributor Dr. Scott Atlas, who is not an epidemiology (study of diseases), but rather a radiologist.
Atlas, who works for the right wing Hoover Institution think tank, tried to play down the coronavirus cases and deaths on Fox News on July 8.
McEnany claimed schools had to re-open because of “lack of reporting of abuse,” and “mental depressions that are not addressed,” even though the Trump administration opposes universal mental health care for all Americans.
