Trump Ordered 2nd Assassination Against Iranian Official In Yemen, Attack Failed
President Donald Trump reportedly ordered U.S. forces to assassinate Abdul Reza Shahlai, a financier and key commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force who has been active in Yemen.
Four U.S. officials told The Washington Post that the assassination attempt was unsuccessful.
A senior U.S. official said the attempted assassination of Shahlai and the successful assassination of Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani were authorized around the same time, but the U.S. did not reveal the Shahlai assassination attempt because it failed.
Executive Order 11905 signed by President Gerald Ford in 1976 states: “No employee of the United States Government shall engage in, or conspire to engage in, political assassination.”
