Trump-Linked US Christian Groups Pour Millions In ‘Dark Money’ Into Europe To Boost Far Right
OpenDemocracy reports that Pro-Trump Christian evangelical groups, including the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) and the American Center For Law and Justice (ACLJ), have poured at least $50 million of “dark money” into European far right wing causes over the last decade.
The ACLJ is a supposed “charity” run by President Donald Trump’s lawyer Jay Sekulow, while the ADF has a long history of supporting anti-LGBT policies and discrimination.
OpenDemocracy reports that evangelical “groups have backed ‘armies’ of ultra-conservative lawyers and political activists, as well as ‘family values’ campaigns against LGBT rights, sex education and abortion – and a number appear to have increasing links with Europe’s far right.”
The evangelical groups hide who their donors are, but openDemocracy notes that at least two have links to the Koch brothers (who helped bankroll the Tea Party movement) and the family of Trump’s education secretary, Betsy DeVos.
