President Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani admitted on CNN on Sept. 19 that he has been pressuring Ukraine officials to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, which would likely help Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign (more video below).
CNN’s Chris Cuomo asked Giuliani: “Did you ask the Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden?”
Giuliani replied: “No! Actually, I didn’t. I asked the Ukraine to investigate the allegations that there was interference in the election of 2016 by the Ukrainians for the benefit of Hillary Clinton for which there already —“
Cuomo fired back: “You never asked anything about Hunter Biden, you never asked anything about Joe Biden and his role with the prosecutor?”
Giuliani then changed his story: “The only thing I asked about Joe Biden was to get to the bottom of how it was that Lutsenko who was appointed dismissed the case—”
Cuomo jumped on this line: “So you did ask Ukraine to look into Joe Biden?”
Giuliani: “Of course I did!”
Cuomo fired back: “You just said you didn’t!”
Giuliani went on to claim — without evidence — that Biden was guilty of bribing Ukrainian officials to get rid of a prosecutor while he was vice president.
Giuliani added that if Trump withheld U.S. funds in an effort to force Ukraine to take law enforcement actions, that would be appropriate.
Cuomo later fact-checked Giuliani.
