Trump Lawyer Jay Sekulow Claims Trump Has ‘Immunity’ From Law, Justice Elena Kagan Says ‘President Isn’t Above the Law’
President Donald Trump’s lawyer Jay Sekulow claimed Trump has “temporary presidential immunity,” which means Trump can’t be investigated or prosecuted while president, notes CNN.
Sekulow is fighting a subpoena for Trump’s tax returns and other financial documents by New York Prosecutor Cyrus Vance, who is investigating Trump’s transactions that unrelated to any of his official acts as president.
Sekulow falsely claimed that a “criminal process targeting the president” violates the Constitution.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor told Sekulow: “You are asking for broader immunity” than anyone else.
Sekulow offered President Richard Nixon’s failed defense: “He’s the President.”
Justice Elena Kagan reminded Sekulow: “The President isn’t above the law.”
