President Donald Trump tried to justify his withdrawal of U.S. troops from northern Syria — and abandoning the United States’ Kurdish allies — while sending U.S. troops to defend Saudi Arabia in its conflicts with Yemen and Iran.
I was elected on getting out of these ridiculous endless wars, where our great Military functions as a policing operation to the benefit of people who don’t even like the USA. The two most unhappy countries at this move are Russia & China, because they love seeing us bogged…..— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 7, 2019
Democracy Now reports that “Turkey has launched an aerial and ground assault on northern Syria targeting Kurdish-controlled areas. The offensive began Wednesday, just days after President Trump ordered U.S. troops to fall back from their positions on the Turkish-Syrian border. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports at least 16 Kurds have been killed so far.”
