An audio tape recording of President Donald Trump and his then-lawyer Michael Cohen talking about setting up a fake company in 2016 to make payments, presumably to former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal and/or porn star Stormy Daniels was released by Cohen’s lawyer Lanny Davis to CNN host Chris Cuomo, who played it on his show on July 24.
On the tape Trump suggests making payments by cash, but Cohen nixes that idea in favor of a fake company, which he says a third party has shown him how to create.
The Trump administration claimed that Trump opposed the creation of the fake company and wanted to make the payments legitimately. Trump released an angry tweet about the recording:
What kind of a lawyer would tape a client? So sad! Is this a first, never heard of it before? Why was the tape so abruptly terminated (cut) while I was presumably saying positive things? I hear there are other clients and many reporters that are taped – can this be so? Too bad!
