Trump Called Fallen American Soldiers ‘Losers’ and ‘Suckers,’ Said John McCain Was a ‘F*cking Loser’: Report
President Donald Trump reportedly called fallen American soldiers “losers” and “suckers” when he dodged a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018.
Trump falsely claimed at the time that “the helicopter couldn’t fly” and that the Secret Service wouldn’t drive him to the cemetery, which wasn’t true, noted The Atlantic:
In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.”
In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed.
Trump reportedly told his senior staff in August 2018 that they were not going to Sen. John McCain’s funeral:
We’re not going to support that loser’s funeral.
Sources said Trump was furious when he saw flags lowered to half-staff for the Vietnam veteran:
What the f*ck are we doing that for? Guy was a f*cking loser.
During Trump’s visit to the Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day 2017, he was accompanied by John Kelly, Trump’s future White House chief of staff.
While looking at Section 60, where Kelly’s son Lt. Robert Kelly was buried, Trump turned directly to John and said, “I don’t get it. What was in it for them?”
