Trump and Pence Threaten to Move Republican National Convention Out of North Carolina If Gov. Roy Cooper Doesn’t Reopen the State Faster

President Donald Trump threatened in a series of tweets to move the Republican National Convention (RNC) from Charlotte, North Carolina, to another state if North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper doesn’t reopen the state faster. Trump demanded that Republicans be allowed to “fully occupy the space.”

CNN reports that Trump’s tweets “completely blindsided” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel who said: “We do not think at this time we have to switch to an alternative plan, but of course, we will monitor circumstances and adjust accordingly. We will not be holding a virtual convention.

Vice President Mike Pence echoed Trump’s threat during an appearance on Fox News.

However, Dr. Nicole Saphier warned on Fox News that President Donald Trump’s plan to “fully occupy” the Republican National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, in August would likely be a disaster.
