Mandy Manning, teacher of the year, met President Donald Trump on May 3.
The Spokane, Washington, high school teacher gave Trump letters from refugee students and wrote a speech about her experience helping vulnerable students.
However, Trump censored the press coverage of the meeting by banning reporters.
Manning got to read her speech on Van Jones’ CNN show on May 5:
I am here for refugee and immigrant students, for the kids in the gay-straight alliance, and for all the girls I’ve coached over the years, to send them the message that they are wanted, they are loved, they are enough, and they matter.
