South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem Ignored COVID-19 Safety Rules, Her State Has One of Highest Death Rates in World

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R) has proudly refused to implement mask mandates and other science-based COVID-19 protections in her state.

In September, Noem claimed guns were the way to do social distancing.

Noem and other Republican governors vowed on Nov. 13 to defy President-elect Joe Biden on requiring safety masks.

According to data compiled by The New York Times, South Dakota’s per capita deaths rank among the world’s highest rates.

The COVID Tracking Project has also noted South Dakota’s skyrocketing deaths.

Dr. William Haseltine, president of ACCESS Health International and author of My Lifelong Fight Against Disease, told USA TODAY that it’s “as bad as it gets anywhere in the world.”

Haseltine blamed Noem for ignoring public health measures that have curbed the spread of the virus.

Dr. Ali Mokdad, of the at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington in Seattle, said he would expect to see these COVID-19 numbers in a war-torn nation:

How could we allow this in the United States to happen? This is unacceptable by any standards.
