During the Senate hearing for Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) used his 30 minutes to explain the staggering amount of money raised by right wing groups to get Barrett into the Supreme Court (MORE VIDEO BELOW).
Sen. Whitehouse cited a Washington Post article that described the $250 million dark money operation by right wing groups such as the Federalist Society, the Judicial Crisis Network and Donors Trust (which has been called the “dark money ATM of the conservative movement“):
Two hundred and fifty million dollars is a lot of money to spend if you’re not getting anything for it. So that raises the question: What are they getting for it?
A Republican president will appoint judges … who will reverse the long line of activist decisions—including Roe, Obergefell, & the Obamacare cases. That is their stated objective and plan. Why not take them at their word?
Whitehouse: “The Republican party platform tells us to look at how they want judges to rule to reverse Roe, to reverse Obamacare cases, and to reverse Obergefell and take away gay marriage. That is their stated objective and plan. Why not take them at their word?” pic.twitter.com/TK993VvC7v— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) October 13, 2020
Whitehouse: “Something is not right around the Court. And dark money has a lot to do with it. Special interests have a lot to do with it.” pic.twitter.com/Lh18NR43yw— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) October 13, 2020
