Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley of Oregon was denied entry to a ICE Child Detention Center in Brownsville, Texas, on June 3.
Merkley told CNN that he was concerned about the Trump administration’s policy of separating immigrant children from their parents, even those legally seeking asylum.
The ICE Child Detention Center is a former Walmart building with its doors and windows blacked out.
Merkley tweeted that the police were called on him:
I was barred entry. Asked repeatedly to speak to a supervisor—he finally came out and said he can’t tell us anything. Police were called on us.
Children should never be ripped from their families & held in secretive detention centers. RT if you agree this is WRONG. pic.twitter.com/GVCuXNjR8d
