Some conservatives are burning their Nike shoes to protest Colin Kaepernick, the ex-San Francisco 49ers quarterback, who stars in a new Nike ad that says: “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything,”
Kaepernick made headlines in 2017 when he kneeled during the National Anthem to protest police brutality against black people.
Twitter user Sean Clancy failed to mention police brutality, but claimed that Nike forced him “to choose between my favorite sport and my country. I chose country. Then @Nike forces me to choose between my favorite shoes and my country. Since when did the American Flag and the National Anthem become offensive?”
Twitter user Freemen4liberty tweeted a similar claim and, likewise, failed to mention the police brutality that Kaepernick protested:
