Republicans Refuse To Fund Health Care For Kids And Pregnant Women, Pro-Life Groups Silent
The Republican-controlled Congress has refused to fund the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which serves about 9 million kids and 370,000 pregnant women.
Federal funding for the program ran out on Sept. 30, reports The Washington Post.
Despite the lack of funding for children and pregnant women, conservative pro-life groups have been silent.
While many states can fund their individual programs for a few months, five states will run out of CHIP money in late December.
Most CHIP families cannot afford private insurance, but earn too much to get on Medicaid.
CHIP is credited with bringing down the rate of uninsured children to 4.5 percent.
Under Obamacare, which Republicans oppose, the federal government provides 88 percent or more of every state’s CHIP funding.
