Republican Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas told Fox News that Austin bombing suspect Mark Anthony Conditt — who was a non-Muslim white man — was not a terrorist even though Conditt did terrorize the city:
I think it’s clear from [Conditt’s video confession] that it’s not terror-related, although it did terrorize the city of Austin for the last month, I think it was a disturbed young man, a mentally ill-type person.
McCaul, who doesn’t hold a medical degree, offered no evidence that Conditt was mentally ill.
Austin police Chief Brian Manley opined on the video confession taken from Conditt’s cell phone:
I know everybody is interested in a motive and understanding why. And we’re never going to be able to put a (rationale) behind these acts.
