UPDATE: The New York Times noted that Gaetz campaigned for accused child molester Roy Moore, with President Donald Trump, in Pensacola, Florida, on Dec. 8.
Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida tried to smear Special Counsel Robert Mueller who is investigating collusion between the Russian government and the Trump campaign in 2016.
So far, Mueller’s work as resulted into four indictments and two guilty pleas by former Trump campaign officials.
Gaetz made his unfounded claims during an appearance on “Fox News @ Night” on Dec. 27:
Well here is what we know, the DNC and Hillary Clinton were paying people to go and pay Russians to tell lies about the president. And I guess that the best evidence of collusion against Republicans is that Republicans and Russia were all on the same Internet at the same time.
It’s ludicrous. Why are we not investigating the real crimes of the real criminals? Why aren’t we investigating why the DNC’s activities with the Fusion GPS company that was employing Bruce Ohr’s wife, Nellie Ohr?
That’s the real collusion, and it’s just outrageous to see this biased Mueller probe continue. I mean, if Bob Mueller were any more biased, we’d have to give him credentials for the mainstream media.
In reality, the Democratic National Committee (DNC), the Clinton campaign and the conservative Washington Free Beacon paid Fusion GPS, which hired Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence spy, to do opposition research on Trump. Some of the opposition research Steele allegedly uncovered included Trump’s visits to Russia.
There is no evidence that the DNC or the Clinton campaign paid anyone in Russia to spread lies about Trump, or that any crimes were committed.
In October, Gaetz falsely claimed that the Medicaid expansion was fueling the opioid crisis, noted Politifact.
