Rep. Chip Roy Blocks Billions Of Disaster Aid For Americans
Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas blocked a $19 billion disaster relief bill — for states and territories hit by earthquakes, flooding, hurricanes and wildfires — that was passed earlier in the Senate, notes Roll Call.
House members tried to pass the aid bill during a pro forma session by unanimous consent, but Roy blocked the much-needed aid because the bill didn’t provide funding for border security:
Our nation is strong enough, and compassionate enough, to have a responsive and fiscally responsive approach to help people who are hurting in the wake of natural disasters.
