Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed Hillary Clinton’s prediction in 2016 that Putin wanted Donald Trump to win the presidency.
Putin, who has been under sanctions imposed by the Obama administration, made his statement during a press conference following the Helsinki summit, notes RT.com:
Yes, I wanted him to win, because he talked about the need to normalize US-Russia ties. Candidate Trump was talking about the need to re-establish relations with Russia. That led to an opinion among the Russian people that he was the preferable candidate. That’s natural.
Putin denied Russian interference in the 2016 election, despite multiple claims by every U.S. intelligence agency that Russia did interfere:
