UPDATE: Four prosecutors — Michael Marando, Aaron Zelinsky, Jonathan Kravis, Adam Jed — have quit.
Prosecutor Aaron Zelinsky resigned as a special assistant U.S. attorney after the Department of Justice said it would seek a lighter sentence for Roger Stone, reports CNN.
Zelinsky recommended that Stone — who was convicted of lying to Congress seven times and witness tampering — be sentenced to seven to nine years in prison.
President Donald Trump tweeted that his friend should not be jailed, and, soon after, the Department of Justice announced its decision to seek a lighter sentence for Stone.
John Dean, former White House Counsel under President Richard Nixon, told CNN that Attorney General William Barr is having a huge influence, even though the judge in the case will make the final decision.
