‘Pro-Life’ Hobby Lobby Stores Stay Open During Coronavirus, Defy Colorado’s Stay-At-Home Order
UPDATE: Business Insider reports that Hobby Lobby is defying state-mandated shutdowns by quietly reopening its stores in Ohio and Wisconsin while the coronavirus spreads and the U.S. death count tops China:
A March 28 memo obtained by Business Insider equipped managers with talking points for “how to respond and communicate if visited by a local authority that asks why we are open.”
In a separate leaked note sent last week, executives wrote that the company “is going to make every effort to continue working the employees.”
Christian-owned Hobby Lobby stores in Denver, Colorado are staying open despite a statewide stay-at-home order issued by Gov. Jared Polis that requires all non-essential businesses to close until April 11 because of the deadly coronavirus outbreak.
The Denver Post reports how Hobby Lobby employees are speaking out against the dangerous practices:
People have shared photos of signs posted at Hobby Lobby stores that say they’re essential businesses because they sell materials for making personal protective equipment and homeschooling supplies.
Gov. Polis’ press secretary contradicted Hobby Lobby’s claims about being essential businesses: “They are not exempt.”
Hobby Lobby is owned by the wealthy “pro-life” Green family who built the Museum of the Bible in Washington D.C.
They refused to comment about their stores staying opening in defiance of gthe governor’s mandate.
