White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany insisted that President Donald Trump has “absolute immunity” because he thinks he does, despite a Supreme Court ruling that said otherwise only hours earlier.
McEnany falsely claimed that the ruling, which gives New York Prosecutor Cy Vance right to subpoena Trump’s financial records, is actually a “win for the president,” which even Trump contradicted.
McEnany made her obviously false claims during a White House briefing:
The president was making general point about deference and on the principal of absolute immunity. He believes there should have been more deference [to him by the court]…
He still maintains his initial position. He takes issue with the point that with the majority made on absolute immunity but, nevertheless, I would underscore the victory here.
