Pastor Threatens South Carolina Newspaper During Sermon: ‘I Cut People, I Got A Knife’

Pastor Hope Carpenter threatened to cut the Greenville News during a sermon at her former church, Relentless Church, in Greenville, South Carolina, on March 31.

Carpenter was preaching in support of the new pastor, John Gray, who has been embroiled in numerous scnndals, notes the Friendly Atheist:

Late last year, he announced that he had given his wife a $200,000 Lamborghini. He also lives in a $1.8 million home (funded by Relentless Church).

Those things, in and of themselves, aren’t sins. What’s troubling is that Gray asked the members of his South Carolina church to pitch in $250,000 to help fix the building’s roof. (It would be easier, he said, if 2,500 people just gave $100 each.)

The Greenville News reported in March that Gray admitted on “The Real” talk show that he had an “emotional affair” but not a sexual one.

The Washington Post reports that Carpenter issued her threat against the Greenville News”

I love you Pastor John and Pastor Aventer. I believe in you. I’m praying for you. I’m rooting for you! I cut people. I got a knife right in that pocketbook. Greenville News, come on. We done went through this. I’m still here, and guess who else is still going to be here?

Greenville News Executive Editor Katrice Hardy told the Washington Post thay her newspaper paper strives to “cover every organization in our community in a fair and unbiased way.”
