Paralyzed Jacob Blake — Not Charged With Any Crime — is Handcuffed to Hospital Bed, Father Says

Jacob Blake’s father told the Chicago Sun-Times that his paralyzed son is handcuffed to a hospital bed after being shot seven times by a white police officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Aug. 23:

I hate it that he was laying in that bed with the handcuff onto the bed. He can’t go anywhere. Why do you have him cuffed to the bed?

I would have no personal understanding why that would be necessary. I can’t imagine why that’s happening and I would hope that we would be able to find a … better way to have him get better and recover.

The Kenosha Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Justice all refused to comment.

Blake’s dad told the Chicago Sun-Times on Aug. 25 that his 29-year-old son was paralyzed, but doctors did not know at the time if the paralysis is permanent.

Blake has not been charged with a crime.
