After violating multiple court orders to return imprisoned immigrant children to their parents, the Trump administration is reportedly trying to remove court-imposed time limits on the detention of kids.
Democracy Now reports that the Trump proposal would allow immigrant families to be held in detention indefinitely, which would end the historic 1997 Flores agreement that says immigrant children cannot be jailed for more than 20 days.
More than 400 immigrant children are still separated from their parents more than a month after a court-imposed deadlines.
The American Civil Liberties Union said ICE officials apparently had access to the phone numbers of hundreds of parents of separated children before a federal court’s June 26 deadline, but intentionally withheld the phone numbers for months, which could be contempt of court.
