Nunes Memo Is Slammed By Ex-CIA, EX-FBI, Republicans: ‘Piece Of Trash’

An anti-FBI and anti-Justice Department memo written Republican Rep. Devin Nunes of California has been thoroughly mocked and slammed by Republicans, as well as former employees of the CIA and FBI.

Former FBI Director James Comey tweeted the memo was “dishonest and misleading”:

Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina tweeted that the memo does not warrant firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller:

During an appearance on CNN, former CIA officer Robert Baer called the memo a “piece of trash”:

I’m worried about the FBI. If I were an FBI agent in the field now and picked up some information on Russia that was damaging to the president or even helpful, I would not report it. I would think twice about it.

I left the CIA, same thing, I reported stuff on Russian money coming into the campaign and, as the messenger, I became the target and I resigned from the CIA. It’s as simple as that.

What you’re having is an agency we depend upon to stop terrorism, FBI agents are putting their lives on the line. You look at this—I’m sorry—it’s a piece of trash, this three-and-a-half-page memo. There’s nothing classified in it. It’s a partisan attack on the FBI. It’s going to do our institutions serious damage and I really worry about it.

Former CIA intelligence officer Ned Price told MSNBC the memo legitimizes Trump dossier writer Christopher Steele:

And this Nunes memo does something very important, it calls Christopher Steele a longtime, longstanding source of the FBI. The FBI does not have longstanding sources who routinely lie to them, who routinely peddle false information. So I think that answers the questions about the biases.

But Katy, there’s a bigger issue here, and I don’t know if Groundhog Day is appropriate to exchange gifts, but Democrats should be showering gifts on Devin Nunes for this memo because it disproves one of the key talking points, namely that the Steele Dossier was the predicate to launch the investigation into Donald Trump in the first place.

Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele tweeted:

Bradley Moss, a lawyer who specializes in litigating national security matters, tweeted:
