North Carolina Man Refuses to Wear Safety Mask at Flea Market, Ignores Cop, Gets Taken Down

A black man, who refused to wear a COVID-19 safety mask and ignored orders from a white police officer, was taken down in Cook’s Flea Market in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on June 27.

In a video of the incident, a second black man helped the white deputy get one of black man’s arms behind his back in order to place him in handcuffs.

The black man, Charles Redell Moody, claimed Forsyth County Sheriff’s Deputy Troy Curry used excessive force, notes the Winston-Salem Journal.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and the owners of Cook’s Flea Market said Moody refused to wear a COVID-19 safety mask, per a statewide mandate, and the owners asked him to leave.

Moody, who was not wearing a mask during his arrest, claims he never refused to wear a face mask and he was never asked to leave, even though he is asked to leave during his arrest.

Moody was charged with resisting arrest and trespassing.
