New Jersey Cop Tickets, Detains Man Driving Pregnant Wife To Hospital

A police officer detained and ticketed a man who was rushing his pregnant wife to a hospital in Howell Township, New Jersey, on Nov. 15.

On the police body cam, the cop refused to give the mom-to-be a police escort to the hospital: “No, we don’t do that. That’s what ambulances are for. And by the way, here’s a ticket for speeding.”

The husband was driving 78 mph in a 50 mph zone, notes The Jersey Journal.

In addition to ticketing the husband, the cop detained the couple for several minutes while running their plates, writing the ticket and repeatedly asking if they wanted an ambulance to come to the scene, which would cause even more delay.

The Howell Police Department defended their cop’s behavior during the medical emergency:

We certainly understand how stressful the moments leading up to birth can be, especially on a woman, and we commend them for their respectful demeanor under the circumstances. However, the officer acted appropriately and any suggestion that the officer’s conduct was improper, unprofessional or inhumane simply contradicts the video evidence.
