Neighbor Calls Police on 9-Year-Old Girl For Writing ‘Black Lives Matter’ in Chalk on Sidewalk

A neighbor called the police on 9-year-old daughter Mira Acklin for writing “Black Lives Matter” on a sidewalk in chalk in Canal Winchester, Ohio on June 17.

Mira described the incident to WBNS:

I wrote Black lives matter; I think black people and white people should both be treated the same… I was scared, I was just really scared.

Her mother Jenna Acklin recalled what happened when the police arrived:

They put down the window looked out the window and said, it’s chalk. He got out of the car and talked to her and said she had called and said there was vandalizing in the street and screaming. My daughter was very shaken and I was angry.

Jenna said that other neighbors encouraged her daughter after some video of the incident went viral:

I’m so glad that it has spread the way It has and I hope that people chalk their own walls and driveways.
