Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly Calls Whistleblower Captain ‘Stupid’ In Speech, Sailors Respond With Profanity
The Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly slammed Capt. Brett Crozier during an address to the USS Theodore Roosevelt crew, who responded by cursing at him.
Modly tried to justify his removal of Crozeir, who sounded the alarm about the about coronavirus spreading aboard the ship and urged action to save his sailors, notes Task & Purpose:
“Modly fired Crozier on April 2, two days after the San Francisco Chronicle published a leaked copy of a memo written by Crozier, in which he warned his superiors that sailors aboard the aircraft carrier would die of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) unless about 90% of the crew were moved into individual quarantine. Crozier has since tested positive for the coronavirus.“
In his attack, Modly said Crozier was either “too naive or too stupid” to be in command, and accused Crozier of committing a “betrayal” and creating a “big controversy,” but the sailors were not having it.
One sailor shouted: “What the f*ck?” while another yelled: “He was trying to help us!”
