Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens Charged With Felony, Blames ‘Reckless Liberal Prosecutor’
Republican Gov. Eric Greitens of Missouri is blaming St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner for his felony invasion of privacy charge, which was handed down by a grand jury on Feb. 21, not Gardner.
Greitens admitted to an affair with a St. Louis hairdresser in January, which began in March 2015, notes The Associated Press.
Greitens released a statement saying he “did not commit a crime,” and attacked Gardner because she is a Democrat:
With today’s disappointing and misguided political decision, my confidence in our prosecutorial system is shaken, but not broken. I know this will be righted soon. The people of Missouri deserve better than a reckless liberal prosecutor who uses her office to score political points.
Missouri Republican Party Executive Director Sam Cooper also lashed out Gardner and defended Greitens:
Kim Gardner has received more than $200,000 from George Soros groups. Missourians should see this for what it is, a political hit job.”
Cooper called Gardner, who is enforcing state law, “an anti-law enforcement Democrat wanting to single-handedly oust a law-and-order governor.”
