Police in St. Paul, Minnesota, allowed a police dog to bite an innocent woman, Desiree Collins, while she was taking the trash out of her home on Sept. 23, 2017.
Now, the citizens of St. Paul owe Collins $520,000, reports the Star Tribune.
Police officer Thaddeus P. Schmidt claimed he lost control of his K-9 when it attacked Collins, ripping her arm into shreds.
Police body cam video posted by KMSP on Facebook shows the police standing by and allowing the dog to tear up Collins’ arm.
U.S. District Judge John Tunheim ruled in August that police violated Collins’ civil rights, which led to the settlement by the city, after wasting more taxpayer money by defending the civil rights violation.
