Michael Avenatti, the lawyer who represents Julie Swetnick, warned Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump and Republican Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa not to smear Swetnick.
Swetnick said in a three-page sworn declaration that she witnessed Kavanaugh “consistently engage in excessive drinking and inappropriate contact of a sexual nature with women in the early 1980s,” which included drugging teen girls who were subsequently gang raped by Kavanaugh’s high school friends.
Kavanaugh denied Swetnick’s allegation, while Trump tweeted that Avenatti was a “third-rate lawyer” pushing “false accusations.”
In response, Avenatti issued a warning on MSNBC:
I’m going to caution Donald Trump, Brett Kavanugh, Chairman Grassley and others. If they try to come after my client or engage in some smear campaign, they better pack a lunch because we’re gonna respond two-fold, we’re gonna respond double as it relates to force so they better be very careful before they start spewing nonsense.
