NBC investigative reporter Tom Winter explained on MSNBC how Michael Avenatti, the former attorney for pron start Stormy Daniels, is being charged for allegedly trying to extort millions from Nike.
Winter referred to court documents that allege Avenatti threatened to release some information about Nike during NCAA’s March Madness tournament and Nike’s quarterly earnings call unless millions of dollars were paid:
On one of the phone calls Avenatti stated, in part, “I’m not expletive around with this and I’m not continuing to play games. You guys know enough now to know you have just got a serious problem.”
“It’s worth more to me in exposure to just to blow the lid on this thing. A few million dollars doesn’t move the needle for me.’” Avenatti continues to threaten Nike’s lawyers, ultimately claiming “I’ll take $10 billion off your client’s market cap.”
